Itinerary Costa Rica Coastal Paradise

Day 1Welcome to San José

Arrive in Costa Rica’s capital city and meet your tour leader and group for a welcome briefing. Enjoy your first taste of Costa Rican culture and cuisine.

Day 2 Journey to Tortuguero

Travel by road and boat through rivers and jungle canals to reach the remote village of Tortuguero. Visit the local turtle conservation center in the afternoon.

Day 3Exploring Tortuguero National Park

Head out on guided boat tours at dawn and dusk to spot caimans, monkeys, toucans, and maybe even manatees. Free time in the afternoon to relax or explore the village.

Day 4To Cahuita on the Caribbean Coast

Transfer to the laid-back town of Cahuita. Enjoy the reggae vibes, colorful culture, and pristine beaches. Unwind with ocean views and Caribbean flavors.

Day 5 Hike in Cahuita National Park

Stroll along white sand beaches and jungle trails in search of sloths, howler monkeys, and reef-fringed views. Optional snorkeling or beach time in the afternoon.

Day 6Free Day or Indigenous Visit

Enjoy a relaxing beach day or opt to visit the Bri Bri Indigenous Reserve to learn about their traditions, language, and chocolate-making practices.

Day 8Botanical Gardens & Cloud Forest

Day 9Birdwatching in Savegre

Take a guided morning walk in search of the resplendent quetzal and other endemic species. The rest of the day is free for hiking, photography, or relaxation.

Day 10 Off to the Osa Peninsula

A long but rewarding journey brings you to Drake Bay, one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse and remote regions. Arrive at your jungle lodge by boat.

Day 11Caño Island Snorkeling Adventure

Head to Caño Island to snorkel among tropical fish, rays, and coral formations. Alternatively, enjoy a coastal walk or relax at your eco-lodge.

Day 12Corcovado National Park Hike

Explore one of the world’s most biodiverse rainforests. Hike jungle trails with a naturalist guide and watch for tapirs, monkeys, and colorful frogs.

Day 13Mangroves & Return to San José

Take a peaceful boat ride through mangrove forests before beginning your journey back to San José. Reflect on your rainforest adventures.

Day 14Volcanoes & Coffee in Orosi Valley

Day 15Departure

Arrival in San José

Welcome to Costa Rica! After arrival at San José’s international airport, a complimentary transfer brings you to your hotel in the heart of the city. Settle in and explore nearby restaurants or relax at the hotel before meeting your tour leader and fellow travelers at 5 PM for a welcome briefing. Your leader will walk you through the adventure ahead.

Journey to Tortuguero National Park

We start early with a scenic drive and breakfast stop en route to Tortuguero, a lush region accessible only by boat or air. A serene boat transfer takes us through a network of tranquil canals to our jungle lodge. In the afternoon, we explore the colorful village of Tortuguero and visit the Sea Turtle Museum. Between July and October, you may opt to witness green turtles nesting on the beach.

Wildlife Exploration by Boat

Today begins with an early boat tour through Tortuguero’s canals, one of the best times for wildlife viewing. After lunch, you can either join a second boat ride or enjoy the lodge’s peaceful amenities.

We retrace our route by boat to the pier and transfer to Cahuita, a laid-back coastal town infused with Afro-Caribbean culture. Check into your hotel and enjoy free time to explore local cuisine, stroll along palm-fringed beaches, or relax at the pool.

Cahuita National Park Discovery

We spend the morning walking the lush trails of Cahuita National Park, where rainforest meets the sea. Keep an eye out for monkeys, sloths, and coral reef ecosystems offshore. The afternoon is yours—join an optional snorkeling excursion or simply relax by the beach.

Free Day in Paradise

Into the Mountains of Turrialba

Today we journey inland to the Turrialba Valley, a highland area known for lush farmland, waterfalls, and birdlife. After check-in, enjoy a relaxed afternoon exploring the grounds or spotting toucans and tanagers in the trees.

Botanical Gardens & Savegre Cloud Forest

We begin with a guided walk at CATIE’s botanical gardens to learn about tropical plants and exotic fruits. After lunch, we head south to the Savegre Valley, a haven for birdwatchers and home to the elusive resplendent quetzal. Enjoy a short walk through misty cloud forest trails on arrival.

Explore Savegre Cloud Forest

Today is free to explore the cloud forest with your guide’s suggested walking routes. Marvel at subalpine flora, gurgling streams, and diverse birdlife like hummingbirds and woodpeckers. Don’t forget binoculars for possible quetzal sightings.

To Osa Peninsula via Sierpe River

Snorkeling at Caño Island or Jungle Walk (Seasonal)

Mangroves and Return to San José

Irazu Volcano and Coffee Tour
