Your morning begins with a departure from Liberia, Costa Rica, around 8:00 AM. After approximately 1.5 hours of driving, you’ll arrive at the Peñas Blancas border. Your guide will assist you with immigration and customs procedures, which typically take 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic and season. Once you’ve officially entered Nicaragua, continue with a 50-minute drive through Nicaragua’s southwest countryside to reach San Jorge Port, located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua.

At the port, you’ll board a ferry (approx. 1-hour ride) across the vast lake, enjoying views of twin volcanoes—Concepción and Maderas—rising dramatically from the water. Transfer to Granada + City Sightseeing

Begin your day with a final glimpse of Ometepe’s twin volcanoes as you board a ferry from Moyogalpa to San Jorge Port, a scenic crossing that takes about 1 hour. This is your chance to unwind, journal, or enjoy a peaceful walk by Parque Central before the afternoon adventure begins.

At 4:00 PM, we’ll head to the marina for a memorable sunset boat tour through the Isletas de Granada. This unique archipelago—formed by a prehistoric eruption of Mombacho Volcano—consists of over 300 small islands scattered across Lake Nicaragua. As you glide through narrow channels and open waters, you’ll pass by fishing communities, lush vegetation, and lakefront villas. Your bilingual guide will point out local birdlife, monkey-inhabited islets, and the historic Fortín El Castillo, a Spanish colonial fortress perched on one of the islands.

After returning to Granada around 1:00 PM, the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure. Apoyo Lagoon Relaxation

Transfer to León + Sightseeing

Today, your journey continues as you travel from Granada to León, two of Nicaragua’s most culturally rich cities. Departing after breakfast, you’ll embark on a 3-hour drive across scenic landscapes, passing sugarcane fields, volcanic plains, and small rural communities that offer a glimpse into the everyday life of the Nicaraguan countryside.

Upon arrival in León, a city known for its revolutionary spirit and colonial beauty, check in to your hotel and enjoy a short break before setting out on a guided city tour. Founded in 1524, León is one of the oldest cities in Nicaragua and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll explore its historic center, where colorful colonial buildings and murals tell stories of Nicaragua’s political and artistic legacy.

A 2:00 PM, embark on an exhilarating Cerro Negro Volcano Boarding Sunset Tour. The journey begins with a 45-minute drive from León to Cerro Negro, the youngest volcano in Central America, standing at 728 meters (2,388 feet). Upon arrival, you’ll undertake a moderate 45-minute to 1-hour hike to the summit, guided by experienced professionals who will provide safety gear and instructions.

At the summit, take in panoramic views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. Then, gear up for the highlight: volcano boarding down the steep, ash-covered slopes. Riders can reach speeds up to 105 km/h (65 mph), making for an adrenaline-pumping descent.

Sunset & Return:

Midday: Speedboat Crossing to La Unión, El Salvador

Upon arrival at Potosí Port, complete the necessary immigration and customs procedures. Once cleared, board a speedboat for a 1.5 to 2-hour journey across the Gulf of Fonseca to La Unión, El Salvador.
